Track List

1. Doubleheader Couple-Up - On the morning of June 8, 1985, PRR steam locomotives #7002, Class E-2 (4-4-2) Atlantic type and #1223 Class D-16 (4-4-0) American Type couple onto the 10 car Pennsylvania Limited" excursion special.  Both locomotives are out of the Pennsylvania State Railroad Museum collection of  PRR power and have just been completely out shopped and beautifully restored to operation condition. This is the begining of the first PRR double headed steam operation in over 25 years.

2. "All Aboard" - The familiar cry from the Conductor, the highball signal and the train eases out of the East Strasburg Station and past the Strasburg Railroad's locomotive shop.

3. Red Caboose Motel - From a track side vantage point at the first grade crossing after the shops, both locomotives are working diligently with the "Limited".

4. Lemman Place - The multiple power strokes make the locomotive sound like it is going much faster than the 10-15 miles per hours it is actually traveling.  Listen carefully just after the locomotive passes and see if you can detect a slip.

5. Gordonville Grade Crossing - On the bustling 4 track mainline, east of Lancaster, PA, a high speed Metroliner electric train of MU cars passes in advnace of the steam special. Because of the high humidity and early morining mist, you can hear the high voltage electricity crackling up the insulators and the overhead catenary demonstrating the extreme sensitivity and transperency of Digital recording technology.

6. Main Line Steam - A few minutes later at the same grade crossing the doulbe headed train approaches at a totally respectable speed reminiscent of the days around the turn of the century when steam motive power leaded all passanger trains.

7. On Train Near Centerville, PA - From the top of the tender of the D-16 #1223, we hear an excellent on-train recording with lots of whistle and both locomotives working at speed.

8. Railroad House; Marriette, PA - Amid the chirp of  birds, the PRR doubleheader steamers charge past this former PRR Station that used to feel the pund of steam locomtoives on a regular daily scedual.

9. On Train - On reletively mainline track, E-2 and D-16 have an easy job of keeping the Special on schedule. Both locomotives exhusts can be heard.

10. Enola yards Service Stop - 7002 and 1223 ease The PRR Limited into Enola yards for  a service stop.

11. Rockville Movie Run - What a more scenic location for this excursion's photo stop than on Pittsburgh line's Rockville Bridge crossing the Susquehanna River north of Harrisburg, PA. The doubleheaders put on a great display of sights and sounds for the shutter bugs recalling fond memories of similar scenes at this same location during the great steam era. The 3680 foot bridge is the longest stone arch railroad bridge in the world.

12. The Navy's Blue Angels and Steam! - Off in the distance at Harrisburg's International Airport, the US Navy's famed high performance, percision jet flying squadronn can be heard performing in the sky high above as #7002 and #1223 storm the 5 mile 0.7% ascending grade west of the noble Elizabethtown Masonic Homes. An interesting contrast between steam and jets.

13. #7002 and #1223 Return Home - A few minutes later, the "PRR Special" returns to Strasburg with a full train of  happy passangers and countless fond memories of riding behind PRR steam.
