Track List

1. NKP #759 on the Horseshoe Curve - Steam locomotives had not plied the imposing grade and the sweeping spectacle of the Horseshoe Curve for over a quarter century until 1969.  Nickel Plate Berkshire # 759, Class S-2 (2-8-4) freight locomotive pulled one of Ross Rowland's famous High iron Company steam powered excursion specials to visit the World Famous Horseshoe Curve.

Thrill to the sounds of this mighty locomotive working full throttle to lift 16 passanger cars (a 1150 ton train) to the summit, while the engineer gives the whistle a good workout to the delight of the more than 100,00 track side spectators who came out to watch and photograph this breath-taking event!

2. PRR J1 # 6438 - A Pennsylvania Railroad Class J1 (2-10-4) with over 60 freight cars in tow assults the Horseshoe Curve in this spectacual historic recording made in June 1950. Regular revenue trains do not have any reason to blow the whistle on the Curve except when to signal the crew, or salute a track side spectator. As the train begins to hit the steep grading, the locomotive starts to slip. Listen to the skill of the Engineer who keeps the train from totally stalling.

3. PRR I 1sa # 4594 - In this historic recording, PRR Class I1 (2-10-0) freight locomotive is heading downgrade with a work train, and is breaks on.  Enjoy the whistle echoing through the hills. The clanking sounds very characteristic of a steam engine close to shop repair time.
